The AUTOMATIC Room
So we where introduced to the automatic room!
I found this room something else, it was full of things you would never find in a learning resource room. It made the atmosphere so different and the way in which learning seemed to flow nicely. The first thing you see when you walk into the room are the three big projection boards that automatically catch your eye.
In this lesson we where all giving a keyboard and asked a question.
"what is the meaning of life?"
This i found was very clever as when you typed each persons response to the answer was anonymous, clever! Everyone had some different answers, some more serious than others. I think this excercise was just something where we could learn how to use this new software and get a feel of the new room we have been introduced to. After getting to terms with the funky new room and calming down, the lesson got on to the main aim which was Edward De Bono and the different ways in which we think. We where split into groups of 3 or 4 and introduced to different ways in which we would think about something.
One of the excercises showed 2 or 3 images and we then had to think of word to do with the object that was on the card. This images consisted of some that people thought had nothing to do with media and some that just didnt have a reason for being there but this was teaching us different ways in which to think. We had to link together somehow the images and make somehthing completely new. Some of the ideas we spoke about where very much left to the imagination and some just what we would could be possible.
I felt that this was a real fun excercise and really got everyone in the class creativly thinking!
What we would change about one simple room?
This lesson was some what easy but made you think, we where giving the question 'What would you change about this room if you had unlimited money and resources?'. Having that question asked to you by someone, naturally i thught of all the things that could obviously never be done in a learning room. When it came to it overall i made out i would change everything, with the power to do anything and with not having to worry about money issues obviously i thought out of the box. After thinking about all the wonderfull, crazy things we could do we where all told that some of these ideas had to be thought about more and how we would be able to do them if this was a real question. We was then to think of more realistic things that could be done in groups of two and then place these ideas into catergories of IDEAS or CONCEPTS. We decided that ideas are something the are to the point, specific and dont need any explanation. Then a concept on the other hand is something that has to have more thought into, more explanation, it may be that there is no ending to it?
I found this lesson eye opeing and learnt that a concept can go on for as long as you make it go on, it was a lesson that really made you think about the type of things that go into a concept, although was fun and this is a way i like to learn things.
Camera Workshop
Today we had a short workshop on how to use the Sony Z1E cameras. This i felt was going to very useful to me as i wasnt used to working with such a technical camera like this one, i was used to using something littler and more compact.
We went through step by step all the basic uses that we would come across when we took the cameras out for filming and how to set up the tripod incase we needed this at some point. We then went through various settings such as the zoom, iris, shutter speed and white balance. This was very helpful and enjoyable i also feel that the information i was told has stuck in my head so when it comes to filimg it shouldnt be any trouble to set up and work.
Ways of Thinking... Creativity and Concept
To get out minds ready for our assignment in Creativity and Concept, we were split in to groups and asked to research a specific thing that we have looked at over the past few weeks. My group got 'Covergent Thinking'. We where to create a visual poster including text and images if neccessary and any web links that we felt would be helpful to anyone else in the class. In our visual poster we decided to include, different quotes that where helpful, images and pharagraphed text. We set out the poster so that it was undertsandble and easy to read for everyone.
After doing this all the different groups that had different areas to concentrate on we all stuck them up on the walls and had a look around at all the different posters people had made. I found this was a good way of learning and was better than reading paragraphs of information, as the posters look fun and where each unique and easy to read. We then where able to write notes about other groups posters which would include helpful critisum.
Scene Analysis - Film Laguage
For Film Language we have been asked to do a film analysis of any film that we want. The scene has to be between 3 and 5 minutes and we have to do the analyise the different shots in the short scene.
Each of the sections on the analysis sheet have been covered other the weeks. It was then time to put our knowledge to the test and show what we have learnt in the lessons. I chose to do a scene from the film 'The Bucket List' as i felt this was a film i enjoyed to watch and would maybe enjoy writing about.
I planned to do my scene analysis through reading week so i had enough time before the hand in date 11/11/11. I myself found this hard, i didnt really enjoy working on this type of task, i felt that i would have worked better if it was a essay taks rather than being giving a work sheet that had certain boxes in that we had to write specific things in.
Overall i tried my hardest and will see what the outcome is.

Last week we where privellaged enough to meet the director and writer of WILL Ellen Perry and she discussed with us the film and all the background information of making a film even down to how many children they had auditioning for the role of WILL which was over 600 children. I found this very helpful and gave me more of an insight of what it takes to create a film.

Quote "Prepare dont rush!"
"People on the Move"
People on the move is going to be a short film of a 90 - 120 seconds consisting of someone or something on the move traveling to some place or maybe nowhere? In this section we are in groups of four still that we created our image storyboards in.
I find this exciting and i like getting involved in coming up with different ideas for the video. I dont feel conifdent being on the camera but i am happy to take part in everything else to make the video as good as it can be.
We have chosen to take this opppertunity to make our video funny but still very well thought about and in detail, i feel that the overall outcome will look really good.
Marshall McLuhan - 'The Medium is the Massage'
For this task the class was split into groups of four to work on a specific book we as a group where giving 'The medium is the massage' this is a book created by Marshall McLuhan and Quentin Fiore in 1967. The medium is the message was the original phrase that McLuhan created to decribe how inspiration from a persons mind and sensory receptors is created into a message for others to see and read to interpret for themselves. He insists that he the medium and the message is the same thing, and that the medium creates the message.
Each week we have worked on this book and created different documents of sources to talk about 'The Medium is the Massage' for instance
PREZI - we each created a prezi talking about different aspects of the book the audio videos, quotes, Marshall Mcluhan in general and the book itself
we also want to include interviews both video and audio. This is a weekly on going task that is interesting and different.
MOFILM
Last week we was sent to a workshop with a company called MOFILM.
MOFILM inspires film-makers to create videos for big brands and social causes. There revolutionary new process is transforming the video creation industry by connecting brands more directly with film-makers and eliminating multiple layers of beauracracy and administration which waters down creativity and inflates costs in traditional processes.
We where asked to make a short advertisment for the brand of a 15 - 25 second films that encourage young people to sit up and take notice, using the visual mnemonic of a gentle whack on the head with a copy of the paper.
After we created this short film we was then to edit it but out of our group we didnt real no how to use the editing software that we could access.
I felt that the experience was good even though we didnt get to finish it because of the issues we had with editing, but found the overall task exciting and creative and gave me a better insight to filming and how to film.
